So here it is, the debut ep from my new group Mirror Mode. I've been playing out and working on this material for the past few months with my bandmate / close friend Dan Wakefield. I feel really proud of this release, so it would mean a lot to check it out! This is just the start of this project, and we have a lot of ideas, so I'll be posting about this frequently! I have to give major props to Matt & Elise from Featureless Ghost. Elise did the artwork, and Matt helped us with mixing and did the mastering. Back in the spring, my old band Roman Photos disbanded. Since then, some of us reconvened to make the spiritual successor to Roman Photos, and thus Kolossi was born. Right now it is currently just a recording project, as I am focusing more on developing Mirror Mode as a live band, but things may (and probably will) change down the line. So Dan Wakefield (Ominous Castle) and I have been playing out for the past few months as Feast of Violet. It started out as Dan helping me out, playing my songs, but the project has grown into a fully collaborative group. So, we've decided to change our name, and I'm going to keep Feast of Violet as the name for my own recordings.

So, here's MIRROR MODE

We have one last show booked as Feast of Violet, on this Sunday (10/16) at the Earl with Still Corners & Lucy Dreams. Then after that, we'll make the full switch over, release some more recordings, and play our next show as Mirror Mode with Memoryhouse & Factory North at 529 on 11/1.

I'm also going to try and be more active on this as the "all things allen taylor" blog. Lots of developments coming up soon.

I know I'm a little late to post this, but my friend Josh Feigert and I have a show up this month at Mint Gallery in Atlanta. We already had the opening on June 11th, but its going to stay up until July 3rd. I am really proud of this show and working with Josh was really amazing. We did a bunch of wall paintings to go along with our pieces. I uploaded some pictures of the wall paintings, which you can check out in the flickr slideshow below, since posting images on blogger drives me crazy. Hey guys, the band i'm in, Roman Photos, is finally putting out our debut seven inch single out on Army of Bad Luck. It's Ribcage on the A-side, and Closer on the B-side. Joe Tsambiras’ recent work grew out of an interest in how to achieve rhythm and movement in two-dimensional design. Our perceptions, memories, and dreams are amorphous, changing and often ambiguous. So tommorrow night at Aurora Coffee in Atlanta is the opening recpetion for the 'Rest In Space' show. I have two pieces in the show that are based on my favorite sci-fi films. My buddy Drew Haddon, the mastermind of roman photos, and I will be performing as Warning Light, which is his/our drone/ambient project. We'll be playing around 8:30, bookended by Lyonnais DJ's, and then Brainworlds is going to play! It'll be a killer evening, so be sure to check it out.

So Creative Loafing was kind enough to ask me to paint one of their big metal newspaper boxes for their relauch/facelift of the magazine thing. They are going to display it at an opening, and then actually put it out in the city of atlanta for use. I'll post pictures after the opening. They also asked some other bad ass local artists to do one (Baxter Crane, Esperanza, R. Land, the paper twins, Lucha, and Tedwood strong). I got a peek at them the other day, and they are ruling pretty hard.

The opening is going to be at The Soundtable in Atlanta. Its sort of a private party thing, so if you'd like to go, you have to RSVP here ahead of time. Here's a cool little tidbit. My zine/art book from last year called 'Hearing Loss' was selected to be in the Thanks For Sharing show at the D21 Kunstraum in Leipzig. Here is a 30-minute long live ambient take I made. I call it 'reading day'. The first part has some beats and then a break, and the rest is just pretty, i think. I didn't edit it, and it was made with a microkorg, sampler, and some minor ableton effects. I hope you like it! (also screw taking a break from posting stuff, thats the first step to never posting anything again)

I'm going to be in this show at the Aurora Coffee in Little 5 Points in Atlanta on March 5th. I'm going to be showing around 15 pieces or so, mostly new stuff. The other artists rule so hard as well, so I am really honored to be shown alongside them!

Also! I will be doing a musical performance the opening night. Joining me will be Seth Bolton from Living Rooms (their myspace) , and David Mansfield, the singing drummer from Roman Photos (our myspace). I made this track as my final piece for a sound poetry class that I took in the fall. I didn't really do the assignment that I was told to do, but I think it turned out pretty well. I do miss using the school computers with a billion dollars worth of software and plugins, and the fact that I can make anything that I do sound like it is coming out of Diamond Dave's setup (guitar rig). Double Phantom Creative Loafing Issue!

So Double Phantom, the record label for which I design, got the cover story for the Atlanta weekly newspaper Creative Loafing, and I got to do an illustration for the cover! Its pretty mind blowing seeing business men and moms carrying around one of my drawings. The article is pretty sweet too, even though my awkward, wrinkled face takes up like half of the page. It was good timing for the label's first festival, Phantomfest, which happened last saturday. The lineup was The Selmanaires, The N.E.C., Carnivores, Balkans, Abby Go Go, Living Rooms, Roman Photos (my band), Facehugger, and a british band called From the Bassment. It was an intense night.

"Roman Photo’s unique brand of post-punk and electronica set an early funky tone. The heavy bass lines and layered synths created an ambient, yet oddly melodic backdrop to the sparse, shouting and somewhat preachy vocals. The bass player’s sporadic yelps into the microphone at times contributed to the art façade the band oozed on stage. At one point during their set the band even distributed various percussion instruments to the crowd – who at that point were more than happy to oblige them with their participation. Upon the completion of their set I couldn’t help but wonder how the band would sound if given time to mature. Their sound was definitely innovative and truly undefined, thus making me anxious to see what these gentlemen might come up with the next time I hear them. I'm posting it for two reasons. The first reason is that in my inexperience in using a four-track recorder, I mistakenly recorded onto one channel, meaning that the music I recorded came through only on one ear. The other ear, however, came from what was originally on the tape, which was a mixtape i made around 5th to 6th grade, including hits from such famous bands as Limp Bizkit, KoЯn, Blink 182, and so on. An interesting sound collage, nonetheless, but not what i was trying to go for, so here's a chance for people to hear it properly.

The second and most important reason that i'm posting this is the original songs that my friends contributed to the tape. I thank you guys so much for giving your time and energy for this little project. Hearing these really warms my heart, and makes me really grateful to have such awesome people in my life. I just wish I could have gotten everyone else in time! Maybe next time. If you like pretty, droney stuff, and amazing, stumbled acoustic one-shotters, give it a download.

Hey guys, i have a new zine/art book available that I made. It's called HEARING LOSS, and its got a bunch of drawings in it, a few of which you can see inside my pics folder. here's the cover (if you rotate it to the side, and color the background green or blue or something):

good news, both of you readers. I have started printing my very first zine. It is called "caverns", and is a collection of my favorite sketchbook drawings from the second half of 2007. I have posted a few of them on this blog before, so you can see what to expect if you scroll down a good ways.

On a more recent note, my friend philip and I have just finished printing the cover for his band Chainestereo's first 7-inch vinyl single, where i did the art! here is what it looks like:

So, this is the single artwork for Chainestereo's 7-inch single called "Anchors & Airplanes", coming out really soon on their DIY label Double Phantom Records. You can actually hear the single on their myspace right now, which would be here: http://www.myspace.com/chainestereo It is a really great step for their band, and i can't wait to see what else comes out of them. I'll let you all know when it is available for purchase.

Anyways, It is really surreal seeing my artwork in mass quantities all at once. It is amazing to see how many flaws and shittiness of the art that i discover when i see 300 copies in front of me. I kind of get this anxiety, where i see so many things that i could have done better, and i want to fix it, really, really badly, but i can't. it's final and permanent, so there's nothing I can do. Don't get me wrong, I am really happy with my work, but you know, everything can be improved on. Oh well. Buy lots of copies.

the red glowing basement, deep blood red carpeting that painted the walls and caught on the dust particles stuck floating around the room, under back lighting. there is some kind of party, i don't know them, they must know my parents, like i am a child with no one to talk to, they lower themselves and humor themselves with my naive presence. everyone is around tables and bars drinking for little bottles filled with black liquid, and their talking slowly blends into a ruffled mid-tone gray noise. i steal one of the bottles from one of the tables when no one is watching, and take little shots over by the colorless quilt covered couches. It is a really sweet cherry flavor that has no bite to it, and this excites me, so i take several shots in rapid intervals, anxious with glee about the buzz and drunkenness. part of me is ashamed of the ease of the liquor, since some other kids come up and make fun of me, but i try to hide the bottle. later when the people are gone, i look through the cabinets to find the rest of the liquor, but it is all gone. i panic, and go running throughout the house, tearing apart dressers and the pantry to see where they are keeping it from me. i find my way up to my parents room, and i find them arm-in-arm, vigorously kissing, like they were both twenty years old again without any worries or stresses, like their love was still fresh. they both look at me and smile, without embarrassment of the display they are showing me. they ask me what is wrong, but i grumble and walk away. i head back down to the basement. the deep, ominous red rooms tilt, and are covered with blurriness. i try to wipe it off, but it only makes it worse.

hello invisible readers. This is probably the third or fourth time trying to get this going right. The old attempts gone wrong, well, mostly from excessive complaining. I like to think i've grown, but complaining is the most obvious reason to start a blog. I feel well about this.
